Three linguistic studies by Jonas Užpurvis is a significant linguistic work. The book consists of three parts with CD audio records. The first and most valuable part “The Dialect of Saugai” is devoted to the research into the native dialect which describes the dialect of Saugai, provides eleven texts in the dialect with audio records made by the author in person. The dictionary of dialects is attached, prepared by another famous Lithuanian linguist Vilius Pėteraitis. The second part “The origin of Memel’s German name for the river and the city” explains the origin of the names of Nemunas and Klaipėda in the historic context based on the old written records. The third part “The creation process of Metai by Donelaitis” is dedicated to the research into the genesis of this creation.
The book is intended to specialists of languages, humanities, students of philology, people of Pamarys region as well as to other readers with a broad range of interests.
